British Columbia residents can have input into provincial speed limit and traffic safety rules now being reviewed by the government.

A province-wide consultation begins today and ends Jan. 24, and seeks input specifically on rural highways, their speed limits and ways to reduce collisions with wildlife. The review also seeks input on use of winter tires and on efficient movement of slow vehicles.

Eight public forums are planned in Kamloops, Kelowna, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Vancouver, Cranbrook, Nanaimo and Chilliwack during December and January. Dates, times and locations are listed here, where the public can also provide input online.

“The ministry will also be seeking input from ICBC, police, the Union of B.C. Municipalities, as well as other key stakeholders. Practical recommendations from this review and a strategy for implementation will be ready in early spring 2014,” said a B.C. government news release.
