Alberta happy with railway legislation

Alberta agriculture minister Verlyn Olson says his province is pleased with Ottawa’s new railway service legislation, which includes several suggestions Alberta tendered previously.

Among those are the extension of interswitching distances, better reporting on commodity movement and greater federal authority to address inadequate service.

Olson said he would continue to push for direct penalties on rail companies that fail to meet service obligations.
