The federal government has announced an almost $2 million one-year investment towards an agriculture youth green jobs initiative.

The initiative is designed to help farmers and other agricultural businesses hire youths for green projects.

The program aims to give graduates experience to help in an overqualified job market.

Canada’s Parliamentary Budget Officer reported in the 2015 Labour Market Assessment that 40 percent of university graduates aged 25 to 34 were overqualified for their positions.

The latest announcement is specifically to be spent on developing agricultural jobs.

Applications will begin to be accepted April 25, 2016 and each accepted internship will end by March 31, 2017.
