Canadian Western Agribition was honoured this week with an award for social innovation at the 2015 Prime Minister’s Volunteer Awards.

President Reed Andrew was on hand to receive the recognition from prime minister Stephen Harper at the Toronto ceremony.

The awards recognize two national and 15 regional winners who make a contribution to their communities.

Agribition relies on about 400 volunteers to produce its annual show

In the social innovation category, nominees are not-for-profit organizations that adopt innovative business practices to respond to social challenges.

Agribition’s educational and awareness programs, positive social and economic impacts, First Nations pavilion and its working relationships with other organizations were noted.

The awards were created in 2011.
