The federal government today announced a five-year $664,000 funding commitment to Canadian Western Agribition.

The money through the AgriMarketing arm of Growing Forward 2 is to be used to market the show internationally and support the International Business Centre at the show.

More than 700 guests from 60 countries are in Regina this year to examine the top livestock and farm equipment on display.

Agriculture minister Gerry Ritz, in attendance to make the announcement, said Agribition is a great place to connect buyers and sellers.

“It never fails to impress,” he said of the show, noting it is the largest purebred beef show in Canada and the third-largest in North America.

“This investment will continue to solidify Agribition’s place as one of the most sought after agricultural marketplaces throughout the world.”

Agribition CEO Marty Seymour said the show is happy to host international visitors and play a role in agricultural commerce.

He noted the show contributes $37 million to the economy.

“We’ll work hard to maintain our status as the best beef show in North America,” he said.
