Degelman Industries says the unit can control residue, get the crop seeded and allow cover crops to start growing

DECATUR, Ill. — Regina’s Degelman Industries launched a seeding attachment for its Pro-Till at the Farm Progress Show in Decatur, Illinois.

“Pro-Cast can be linked in with all of our Pro-Till machines and can be hooked in with all of our Strawmasters as well,” said Paul Degelman of Degelman Industries.

He said it was largely designed to put in cover crops.

“That’s what’s trending, we think Pro-Till is a fantastic tool for residue control in a one-pass type of machine. Here we’re putting on a seeding unit that we can control residue and get seed into the ground and get your cover crops going.”

He said it could also be used to seed canola, especially in years with tough seeding conditions.

The system uses a fan to distribute product but its tank isn’t pressurized.

“It’s a sealed metering system with a very nice equal distribution. We’re just dropping the seed or the herbicide right after the disk, in front of the rollers and squeezing it in. So that’s what we’re doing, we’re squeeze-seeding.”

The metering system has a polyurethane housing, stainless steel components and an ISOBUS interface.

He said Pro-Cast doesn’t have enough volume capacity to put fertilizer down, but it does have a fit for granular herbicides.

“Back home (Saskatchewan) granular herbicides are starting to trend again. Weed control, Roundup, just isn’t doing the trick with some of the tolerance out there. There is more and more herbicides going down, so again, this is going to help on that,” Degelman said.

There are two models of the Pro-Cast: the PC80 and PC120.

The PC80 has an 80 cubic foot/65 bushel capacity and can apply up to 200 pounds per acre at 10 m.p.h. with a 40-foot Pro-Till.

The PC120 has a 120 cubic foot/95 bu. capacity and can apply up to 60 lb. per acre with a 100-foot Strawmaster heavy harrow.
