Remote viewing will be part of the package on new John Deere farm equipment that sports the latest in environmentally correct engines.
JDLink is a telematics package that allows dealers and owners to remotely view machine performance and diagnose issues from the office. It will come standard with new engines that meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Interim Tier 4 III B standards.
This was optional on Deere equipment, with a few exceptions, such as the new higher horsepower non-articulated four-wheel drive tractors.

Two levels of telematics tools will be offered: JDLink Select and JDLink Ultimate.
JDLink Select is the basic system, providing location, engine hours, geofencing and maintenance alerts.
The Ultimate adds information on oil temperature, idle time, fuel consumption, maintenance intervals and other engine data.
Scott Clair of John Deere said data collected by JDLink is communicated to a central Deere server, which registered users can access using an online computer dashboard, SMS text messaging or e-mail.
Real-time operational information can keep farm owners and managers informed of location and operation without the need to contact the operator or manually check machine conditions in the field.
The system relies on cellular phone service to connect the machine to Deere servers.
In areas where service is spotty or intermittent, up to 1,000 hours of data can be stored for later transmission when service is restored.
The company is planning to release an optional satellite feed later this year for non-cellular coverage areas.
