RALEIGH, N.C. – A new generation of fungicide is entering the fight against fusarium head blight.
Caramba will be released this season in Western Canada. The triazole fungicide was designed mainly to look after fusarium in the traditional application window.
“It also offers excellent leaf disease control,” said Wayne Barton of BASF.
The product is also registered for septoria, tan spot, rust, scald, net blotch, spot blotch and crown rust.
“We think this will be a revolutionary product for producers, especially in areas where fusarium has consistently been a yield limiting factor,” he said.
“Not only does it improve yields and grades, but it reduces the DON contamination.”
The third party testing that BASF used in its application for Canadian licensing showed improvements in DON levels over existing products.
Barton said Caramba was also effective against rust.
The new fungicide is being registered for use in spring and winter wheat, barley, durum, oats and rye.
