REGINA — It was longer than the usual list of new products and inventions at Canada’s Farm Progress Show in Regina last week.
Eight companies won awards for innovative new products.
Twenty-eight years after he first won the award for a hitch invention, Brian Olson of Power Pin in Fort Qu’Appelle, Sask., won the gold award again. Once again, it was a hitch invention that won, but this one is not for tractors or implements. It’s an over-the-road truck hitch system.
Olsen’s hitches can be found as standard equipment on most major tractor manufacturers’ machines.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s crop production and world agricultural supply and demand estimates reports were released July 11 with the main focus on the wheat, corn and soybean estimates.
Regina’s Intragrain Technologies also won a gold award. Kyle Folk’s Bin Sense grain storage fan remote control for grain bin aeration fans was a hit with the judges. The control is part of the company’s Bin Sense software and sensor cables that provides wireless control and feedback to the producer, and allows control from a tablet computer or smartphone.
Silver innovation awards went to Clean Seed Capital for its 60 foot version of its CX-6, six product air seeding system.
EZlid, invented by Shawn Poncak of Brandon, offers remote grain bin lid opening. Sulvaris of Calgary won silver for its Vitasul, a 0-0-0-90 elemental sulfur fertilizer.
Sunnybrook Welding and Machine won for its lighter weight replaceable concaves for the New Holland CR twin rotor combines. The smaller sections of concave can be quickly swapped for differing harvest conditions or between small and large seeded crops.
Saskatoon’s Agtron won for its wifi-based Legend, a seeding rate and blockage monitoring unit.
Ag Growth International of Winnipeg claimed a silver award for its Gulp, an ultra low profile, drive over belt hopper that can be added to large capacity Westfield swing augers. The chevron pattern belt is driven by hydraulics, as is the positioning system for the hopper.
