A respected weather forecaster recommends that prairie farmers jump on field work whenever possible this spring and not wait for ideal conditions.
Weather in 2011 might settle down after a wild year globally in 2010 that was bad for crop production in many regions, said meteorologist Drew Lerner of World Weather Inc., a weather analysis and advisory firm in Kansas City, Missouri.
However, Lerner told farmers at Crop Production Week in Saskatoon that the strong potential for a cool spring presents another year of seeding challenges.
