Cleaning up emissions in big diesel engines doesn’t necessarily mean less power.
Cummins’ latest 15 litre, QSX series power plant, which it released last week, has gained 75 horsepower, now delivering up to 675 h.p., and will meet the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s final emission requirements for Tier 4 engines in 2014.
The engine, found in the Versatile HHT tractors, is rated from 435 to 575 h.p. and combines an exhaust particulate filter and a selective catalytic reduction via fluid injection. It’s the same size as the QSX15 model, said Jennifer Rumsey of Cummins.
