raven-1Last July, The Western Producer introduced the Cow Cam, a video of a cow’s life that was shot by a cow. We attached a small camera to the halter of a purebred black Simmental named NHD Raven 17R.
Raven proved to be a capable videographer, successfully capturing the eating, drinking and social habits of a cow herd in a pasture. It helped that the cow is one of the tamer ones in the NHD Simmentals herd that lives near Glenwood, Alta.
raven-babyI am happy to report that Raven gave birth to another calf in late December. A motherly sort, she mothered her own calf and then tried to adopt a few other newborns as well, raising some havoc in the calving barn. However, it was all sorted out eventually, and it’s one calf per cow now.
That Raven! She has quite a personality. Here are some photos of this year’s product, which shows every sign of being as friendly as its mother.
