The canola industry has received another cash injection from the federal government for market development work.

Saskatchewan MP Randy Hoback announced today at the Canola Council of Canada’s annual meeting in Saskatoon that the industry will receive $1.16 million in funding to assist in promotion efforts.

“Our government is proud to help spread the word about this amazing product,” he told conference delegates.

“By helping the industry enter new markets and maintain existing ones, this investment will put more money into farmers’ pockets and help strengthen the entire economy.”

Council president JoAnne Buth thanked the federal government for its ongoing support of the industry. Last year the council received $1.5 million for market development work.

“About 85 percent of canola grown in Canada is exported, so our marketing efforts are incredibly important to the health of our entire industry,” she said.

“This investment will enable us to continue to maintain and develop markets around the world.”

The money will be spent on oil and meal promotion efforts in the United States, Mexico, India and China.
