The Alberta government has committed as much as $25 million to help southern Alberta communities cope with spring floods.
The funding does not apply to victims of current flooding in southwestern Alberta but rather to communities affected by floods in the southeastern portion of the province and in Olds earlier this spring.
The assistance applies to uninsurable losses experienced by residents, small businesses, agricultural operations and municipalities between April 1-30, said a government news release.
It is available to those affected within the boundaries of Medicine Hat, the Municipal District of Taber, Wheatland County, Cypress County, County of Forty Mile, County of Lethbridge, Vulcan County, County of Newell and the Town of Olds, and includes all municipalities and irrigation districts within those boundaries.
The government also offered a disaster recovery program in March, but recipients must reapply. Registration centres will be set up this week, said the news release. More information is available at 888-671-1111.
