Outflows from Gardiner Dam will gradually increase over the next week to create storage in Lake Diefenbaker for expected inflow.
The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says significant precipitation is forecast for the east side of the Rocky Mountains this weekend, with rain totaling 50 millimetres or more.
That will produce an increase in flow on the South Saskatchewan River as it enters Lake Diefenbaker. Water levels are already high because of spring runoff, and the above average snow melt from the Rockies is expected to enter the system in June.
Flows through Gardiner Dam are 1,000 cubic metres per second, which will increase gradually until the rate is 1,250 cubic metres per second.
