The second stage of education property tax reductions will go ahead in the Saskatchewan budget March 23, resulting in the largest education tax cut in the province’s history.

Finance minister Ken Krawetz told delegates to the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities annual meeting in Saskatoon that education tax on agricultural land will have dropped by 80 percent once the property tax reform is fully implemented.

The Saskatchewan Party promised the cut in the 2007 election campaign. However, after implementing the first stage in 2009 it was forced to delay the second stage because of budget restraints.

The agricultural mill rate drops from 7.08 to 3.91.
