Cora and Brian Krywko of Morrinville, Alta., were tired of managing grain samples.
“Our son left one for his dad in the shop. In the dark, his dad found it, the hard way,” Cora Krywko said Nov. 11 at the Agri-Trade show in Red Deer.
“After commenting on it’s location and cleaning it up, he decided there had to be a better way of managing the bin samples.”
The Krwkos developed a product they call the Sample Bin. It’s a 30 litre, plastic container that mounts on the outside of flat bottom grain bins or on the legs of hopper units.

“No more storing samples in one place and then labeling them,” she said.
The top slides off to seal the grain inside and protect it from rodents and water. However, it still provides modest ventilation, similar to the grain in the bins they represent.
“Inside the lid is a white board and marker for recording the product information. No lost slips or water damaged paper,” she said.
“It can’t rust, its resistant to ultraviolet light and you can get a sample from it from the spout on the bottom. … We make them on the farm. Brian built the machine we use.”
