Rain has kept many producers from getting into the field and might be causing major cropping choice changes.
For canola growers, there are choices that could yield well in a short growing season, said Brad Ewankiw of Bayer Crop Science.
Bayer hybrids such as Invigor 5020, 8440, 9590 and 5440 are all aimed at a short growing season and supplies of seed are still available, said the company.
Pioneer Hi-bred’s early 43E01 and medium-early 45H21 and D3151 are also available.
Viterra’s 9350 is a shorter season option, along with the open pollinated Secan Café and Rugby.
Ewankiw said there is some time left for planting canola, provided the Prairies experience an average summer from this point on.
