Even the best-built bearings will buckle and break when installed on disc cultivators, seeders, harrows and rippers.SKF engineers have devised the Agri Hub in an effort to reduce downtime in rotating disc tillage implements. They say it is immune to damage from string, vines, stones, straw, mud, sand, dust and granular and liquid fertilizer.The engineers accomplished this with what they call an anti-string flange shape and an anti-straw Arizona dust and stone labyrinth.The hub has a flanged outer ring that’s drilled and tapped to accept a disc on a four-bolt 98 millimetre pattern. The stationary inner ring is fitted with a threaded stub for easy mounting on any implement arm.It is greased and sealed for life at the factory, eliminating the time and cost associated with regular greasing.SKF says the permanently sealed hub keeps all contaminants out of the housing and resists penetration from pressure washers.It says longevity is another benefit. Field tests did not reach 250,000 acres, but data extrapolation shows the Agri Hub is expected to last that long. Other hubs in the same field test failed between 44,000 and 100,000 acres.Tests also showed a potential increase in ground speed.With conventional hubs, A 20 disc harrow that was able to travel five m.p.h. with conventional hubs could increase its speed to 13 m.p.h. with the Agri Hubs. The high capacity bearings are designed to withstand shock loads encountered at those speeds.The hub is a complete integrated unit ready to install when it leaves the factory.
