The brazen theft of a New Holland 9882 tractor has its owner singing the blues.
David Rosin said he can’t believe someone would take the 1997 model tractor from outside the Indian Head, Sask. repair shop where it sat.
At first he thought perhaps it was a practical joke. But RCMP say it appears the tractor was loaded on a trailer and driven away.
“There are tracks about 10 feet long and then it disappeared to nothing,” Rosin said from his Regina home last week.

The tractor had been sitting at the repair shop awaiting work on a leaky fluid-filled tire since July 1. The shop owner was away.
When Rosin’s brother drove by after Sunday church July 5, he didn’t see the tractor. Police believe it was taken sometime between 3 p.m. July 4 and 1 p.m. the next day.
Someone reported seeing a trailer with a tractor go by at 9:30 p.m. July 4 but didn’t think enough of it to be concerned.
Rosin said he is amazed at the lengths to which someone went to take the tractor. He noted that the keys for such tractors are all the same and anyone could have driven it away.
“We’re a trustworthy bunch,” he said of farmers who know this can happen.
United in irritation
The theft has united farmers and dealers that Rosin has spoken to since it happened.
“They almost felt violated themselves,” he said.
Stealing something so large is an in-your-face action that says ‘we can get away with it’, he added.
Rosin hopes whoever has the tractor hasn’t stripped it or taken it for a joyride. Trying to sell it would be silly, he said, because it’s worth a lot and would likely require a loan.
He estimated its value at about $140,000.
“It’s a blue 1997 New Holland four-wheel drive with big chubby 710 Metrics tires in very good shape,” he said. “It’s all washed and waxed and in mint condition.
“I know it’s an inanimate object but it’s the work that it’s done for you…. I really want to get my tractor back.”
The serial number is D104851. The tractor has eight 710 Metrics tires and about 2,500 hours on it.
