Lyle Stewart, a farmer and rancher from Pense, Sask., has been named agriculture critic for the Saskatchewan Party.

First elected to represent Thunder Creek in 1999, Stewart previously served as resources critic. The first of the provincial government’s ethanol plants was announced for his riding more than a year ago, but has not yet been built.

He will now serve as deputy re-sources critic, and chair of the caucus committee on the economy.

The former school trustee, rural municipal councillor and community volunteer is also a member of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association.

Stewart replaces Donna Harpauer, who is the highways critic.

Other key critic responsibilities include: Ken Krawetz, deputy leader and health; Brad Wall, finance; Don Toth, learning; Wayne Elhard, municipal government; Milt Wakefield, resources; and Yogi Huyghebaert, environment.

Leader Elwin Hermanson shuffled his shadow cabinet earlier in December after premier Lorne Calvert announced his new cabinet.
