The president of the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan resigned last week, citing personal reasons.

Ken McBride, a grains and oilseeds producer from Kindersley, had been president since December 2005 and was not challenged for the job at the 2006 annual general meeting.

Vice-president Glenn Blakley said McBride told the board of his decision at a meeting May 17.

“It was a personal decision on his part to resign his position immediately,” Blakley said. “It was quite a surprise.”

McBride was the young organization’s second president.

According to APAS bylaws the two vice-presidents, Blakley and Kerry Holderness, will fill in until a new president can be appointed. Blakley said the board hoped to have a meeting as soon as possible but with seeding underway he couldn’t give a date.

The APAS mid-term convention is scheduled for July.
