It’s the scouts’ motto and one that we should all heed.

Disaster planning has gained a high profile in the wake of terrorism attacks and natural disasters like ice storms and hurricanes.

But such plans have not gained prominence in the critical relationship between the prairie grain industry, the port at Vancouver and the railways that link the two.

Western Producer reporter Ed White asked what would happen if, through natural or man-made disaster, the Prairies lost access to this Pacific gateway.
