The Holstein sale returned to Canadian Western Agribition in 2006 after a forced absence of two years because of BSE border closures and the accompanying market downturn.
Forty-five head sold for $88,100, an average of $1,957.78. That compares to the last sale, in 2003, when 19 head sold for $69,400 or an average of $3,652.63.
The high seller was a two-year-old consigned by Prairie Diamond Farm of Balgonie, Sask. PDF Terrason Sofia sold to Kawartha Holsteins, of Osler, Sask., for $4,500.
Rainyridge Holsteins, of Laurier, Man., exhibited the grand champion female in the Holstein show. Rainyridge Lee Candice also had the best udder.

In the coloured breeds show, Wilsongrove Holsteins of Gilbert Plains, Man., exhibited the grand champion female, Gentrice Duke Leann. The reserve grand champion was Fisher Dairy Major Betty-Jo, exhibited by Ell’s Dairy.
Wilsongrove was also named premier breeder.
