REGINA – Swing augers, even those with hydraulically driven wheels, don’t run out to meet the truck’s trailer while the driver is still in the cab.
There is often a little dance between the trailer and auger, especially the first time at the grain bins, until the auger’s hopper is in just the right spot. It generally involves the operator making trips from truck to auger to tractor.
Gerald Wiebe of Saskatoon grew tired of dancing and wanted a better way to position a swing auger’s hopper.

Canola oil transloading facility opens
DP World just opened its new canola oil transload facility at the Port of Vancouver. It can ship one million tonnes of the commodity per year.
“Now it runs off of a key fob like the one that your car or truck comes with to start it or lock the doors,” said Wiebe, who was showing his invention at last month’s Western Canada Farm Progress Show in Regina.
Wiebe’s company, Agremote, has both two and four wheel drive models that can fit nearly any swing auger.
“You can be sitting in the cab of the truck and positioning the swing auger at the push of a button,” he said.
A reversible, 12 volt electric motor drives the unit into place under the trailer or up to the back of the truck.
A winch is built into the drive, allowing the operator to lift the swing auger when it comes time for transport.
“We sell it as a kit for producers that they can install easily. We build brackets for just about any auger that’s out there,” he said.
