Saskatchewan residents who use fuel oil or propane to heat their homes can now apply for a one-time $200 grant to ease that cost.

The government announced last November that it would help people deal with higher energy costs through a number of measures.

Grant applications are available at rural development offices, municipal offices, bulk fuel dealers and First Nations band offices.

The applications must be submitted, along with an invoice or receipt from an oil or propane dealer, before March 31.

The government estimates more than 10,000 households are eligible for the assistance.

Only principal residences or businesses that use oil or propane are eligible; cottages and seasonal properties are not.
