Dad sent clippings

I am so sad to have the news that Western People has been discontinued. The Western

Producer has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.

I grew up in Kinistino, Sask., and my father R. J. (Bob) Humphrey, subscribed to it so I

read it and liked it. After 1930 when I went to train to be a registered nurse at the Saskatoon

City Hospital, Dad would send me clippings from it. He wrote me every week for 31 years

At that time I had his subscription transferred to me and I have been receiving it ever since

and have grown to love it. I share it with other Prairie people and send copies of Western

People and clippings to our daughter who is a kindergarten teacher in Whitehorse, Yukon.

Of course I am not a farmer, living on a little inner city lot, but growing up on the beautiful

Prairies in my beloved home town where all our lives were influenced with weather and

those who were farmers, some of the interest brushed off on me; I read a great deal of the

farm news.

I wrote to Michael Gillgannon and cherish his lovely reply. I will really miss his (columns.)

And now I sadly say goodbye to Western People. I feel like I do when I receive the news

that another friend has passed away. Again, thanks for many happy hours of real prairie

reading.
