Manitoba pig farmers should pay their bills with pork, says the Manitoba Pork Council.
The organization is distributing Pork Bucks to Manitoba pig farmers so they can help spread the message that the hog industry creates a lot of economic spin-offs.
Council chair Marcel Hacault said slipping a “pork buck” into a wad of cash being used to pay a bill will make people realize that the hog industry is supporting their jobs and industries.
“Maybe he keeps me at my job,” is the message Hacault hopes his satellite TV provider receives.

The pork bucks aren’t a substitute for regular legal tender, but they can be used to enter the recipient in a draw for a “whole hog barbecue” for 100 people.
Hacault said the pork bucks are part of Manitoba Pork Council’s aggressive pro-hog farming awareness campaign.
“Pork Bucks are an excellent way to remind Manitobans how important the pork industry is,” said Hacault, claiming it adds $2 billion per year to the provincial economy and employs 15,000 people.
“Our purpose for this is really to let people know, with dollars, how much we contribute to the economy, how much people rely on our industry.”
