Triple-blade mower

The new flatter cutterbar on Vicon’s GMR disc mower conditioners are said to streamline crop flow and even out the cut. The three-bladed triangular discs double the cuts per minute, reducing the number of plugs even in wet or mounded hay.

Working width is equal to the cutting width of 7’10”, 9’4″ and 10’6″ on the GMR 2400/2800/3200 models, because the drive is taken directly to the first disc. A full swivel hitch is standard equipment, so square or irregular corners can be negotiated under full power.

In the mower, rollers are designed to crimp rather than strip the stalks, and put out a high windrow to promote even drying and easier pickup. Conditioning intensity is variable and swath widths can be adjusted.

Vicon also has a new line of flail-type mower conditioners in the same working widths, differing only in conditioning system. Instead of rollers, the crop is handled by rotating steel flails arranged in a spiral pattern around a rotor. Contact: Braber Equipment, 1264 Riverside Road, Abbotsford, B.C. 604-859-8433.

Forage blower

Fill rates of 100 tonnes of silage in 100 feet high or more may be achieved by the new Ford New Holland Model 60 forage blower.

The 540 PTO blower uses a positive feed auger to lift material into the fan at a 30-degree angle. The blower fan diameter is five feet and the paddles are mounted on a backing plate, so material doesn’t rub on the housing and friction is reduced, the company says. A low-height but larger sized hopper makes it easier for positioning when unloading. Contact: Gene H. Hemphill, Ford New Holland Inc., 500 Diller Ave. New Holland, Penn. 717-355-1371.
