The blizzard conditions are slowly but surely moving through the eastern Prairies, but the next clipper system is moving into Alberta this morning. The next clipper will be extremely fast moving and will bring light precipitation to most of the central and northern Prairies. The total amounts of precipitation from the system are expected to range from 15 to 25 mm of water equivalent precipitation.

Temperatures dropped significantly overnight as the clipper system moved across the Prairies. over the past 36 hours. Overnight lows are mostly in the -15 to -25C range with highs today expected to remain in the -10 to -20C range. The cool weather will quickly move back to the low negative single digits tomorrow as the next clipper system moves through the region. Cold temperatures will push back into the Prairies on the weekend with highs mostly in the -15C to -20C range.

The long-term forecast continues to call for troughing in the Gulf of Alaska, leading to mostly zonal flow across North America. This pattern will bring a halt to the persistent clipper systems that have been present through most of December. The above normal temperatures will remain mostly in the continental U.S. and parts of eastern Canada.
