REGINA — Purebred beef shows begin in earnest today at Canadian Western Agribition.
Simmental, Speckle Park, Maine Anjou and Gelbvieh shows are all on tap.
Yesterday, a Simmental, Black Gold Ms Hayleigh 153K, exhibited by Bar SK Cattle Co. from Lloydminster, Alta., won the interbreed First Lady Classic. The top five also included a Polled Hereford, Charolais, Black Angus and Red Angus.
The futurity First Lady Classic winner was a Black Angus, Blairswest Erica 77J, with calf at side, Rainbow TKA Bonanza 305L, exhibited by Rainbow Red Angus of Cherhill, Alta., and Triangle K Simmental and Angus.

On the male side, a Simmental also took top honours. Wallgren Farms from Edgerton, Alta., exhibited WF Capital 164L. Rounding out the top five were entries from Red Angus, Polled Hereford, Charolais and Black Angus.
Lazy J’s Chelsea from Pete and Leann Hildebrand at Hanley, Sask., was named grand champion female in the National Texas Longhorn show, while reserve honours went to Show Me to Success 43 from Double D Arena in Outlook, Sask.
The grand champion bull was LR Shadow Dancer from Lone Rider Longhorns in Athabasca, Alta. Double D Arena took the reserve with Zeeko 13.
The grand champion steer was Busta Rhymes from DS Cattle Company and Darryl Swark of Carman, Man. Lone Rider showed the reserve, LR Poncho 12.
Silver Creek Bison topped the bison sale with an $11,000 bull born just last January. The grand champion male in the show was a 2022-born bull from Roaming K Bison.
The grand champion female was shown by Big Country Bison. The top selling female was from Bear Paw Bison and sold for $4,700.
