The Canadian Grain Commission is putting contingency plans in place in case federal workers walk off the job.

About 65 percent of the commission’s employees are members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada and could be off the job as of April 19.

Most inspectors at port are PSAC members.

“Official outwards inspections would be affected,” said the CGC in a statement. “We are currently working with licensed grain companies on contingency plans to ensure that critical grain exports can continue.”

Services that could be partially or fully disrupted include analytical testing, communications, export certification, grain safety and identity preservation, weighing, official inspection, reinspection of submitted samples, reinspection of grain delivered to a terminal elevator, safeguards for farmers, statistics and submitted sample inspections.

Other services not in this list will continue to be available.
