Six recipients are sharing $484,000 from Saskatchewan’s strategic field program for research projects this year.
The federal-provincial cost-shared program funds projects at the field scale to demonstrate and evaluate certain practices and technologies.

The idea is to provide producers with new information to enhance their long-term sustainability and competitiveness.
The 2022 projects include:
• $158,660 to the University of Saskatchewan to develop an agronomic guide, a return on investment model and a propagation protocol for hazelnuts grown under irrigation.
• $90,418 to the University of Regina to work on dugout aeration for greenhouse gas emission reductions and improved water quality.
• $50,800 to South East Research Farm to demonstrate the efficacy of control products for lygus species in flax.
• $121,900 to Spencer Horticultural Solutions to evaluate a cutting and burning protocol to rejuvenate overgrown saskatoon berry orchards.
• $15,000 to Judd Street Associates-Crops Consulting Services to examine the impact of broflanilide-based seed treatments to cereal crops on wireworm populations.
• $48,000 to the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association to evaluate electronic virtual fencing on forested pasture.
