Renewable energy opportunity offered

Women Building Futures and Vestas are partnering with Lethbridge College to offer a Vestas wind turbine technician readiness program later this year.

It will provide students with the entry-level skills needed to begin a career as a wind turbine technician with Vestas.

During the four-week program, students will have the opportunity to formally interview with Vestas for a position as a Level 1 service technician.

Students who successfully interview and complete the program will become employed and participate in three-weeks of fully paid hands-on training and onboarding with Vestas in Portland, Ore.

Flower marketing funding

The federal government is investing about $535,000 to support two projects at Flowers Canada Growers to capture new opportunities for market growth.

About $460,000 will be used to support activities that promote Canada’s floriculture products, which will help increase sales throughout Canada and the United States.

Another $75,000 will be used for a feasibility study to help determine long-term solutions that address insurance challenges in the floriculture greenhouse sector.

Canada has more than 2,400 farms producing floriculture products, based on the 2016 census.

The ornamental horticulture sector generated farmgate sales of $2.54 billion in 2020, including resales by producers.
