Kelcy Elford of Caronport is the new president of the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Association.

Rounding out the executive are Garner Deobald from Hodgeville as first vice-president, Jeff Yorga of Flintoft as second vice-president and Kimberly Simpson from Kyle as finance chair.

Members passed three resolutions at their recent annual general meeting, including a call to lobby Health Canada to reconsider allowing strychnine to control Richardson’s ground squirrels and another that the word “meat” not be allowed to describe plant-based products.

The third motion was to lobby the Saskatchewan environment ministry to require trappers to obtain written permission to place traps or snares within 1,500 metres of a dwelling or livestock herd.

Six directors were named to the board, including incumbents Keith Day, Glen Elford, Joe Gilchrist and Calvin Gavelin. Newcomers are Chay Anderson and Miles McNeil.
