REGINA — A Saskatchewan egg producer has been named to the National Farm Products Council by agriculture minister Ralph Goodale.
Linda Boxall, who farms near Grand Coulee and manages Sunshine Eggs, has been a director of the Canadian Egg Marketing Agency and held positions with the Saskatchewan Egg Producers Board, the Canadian Egg Producers Council, the Canadian Federation of Agriculture and the Farm Credit Corporation Appeals Board.
Boxall said her past industry involvement is the strongest asset she brings to the council. Sometimes the council and the marketing boards are in conflict, she said, and she hopes to help “smooth the feelings between the two.”

The council oversees the supply-managed egg, poultry and dairy industries and their respective marketing boards.
“We have to make sure they stay within the framework of the legislation,” she said. “Each operates with a board of directors of producers and the council oversees that.”
Boxall also said the council will have a role to play in dealing with coming changes to supply-managed industries in the wake of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade.
Large role to play
“The council will have a large role but it will evolve as (task force) talks continue.”
Boxall also owns a Regina restaurant franchise and is a partner in Enviro-Tech, a Canada-U.S. recycling venture. She has run as a Liberal candidate in both provincial and federal elections.
She replaces Glenn Flaten, an eight-year member of the council who retired July 31.
