Southwestern Saskatchewan beef advocate, rancher and photographer Sherri Grant was named the BMO Celebrating Women in Agriculture honouree at last fall’s Canadian Western Agribition.
Grant ranches at Val Marie with her husband, Lynn, and other family.
She is an author, co-writing Where Beef Comes From with her daughter-in-law Avery Grant, and established the website beefeducation.ca for accurate education on beef production.
Her photography centres on life on the ranch and Grasslands National Park and she is dedicated to preserving grasslands and species at risk.

At Agribition, she has worked in the education program for children and consumers and led the beef component since 1989. From 2003-09 she sat on the Agribition board.
President Chris Lees said the industry owes her much gratitude for the work she has done to dispel misconceptions about beef production and share agriculture’s positive story.
In a news release, Grant said she was honoured.
“There are so many women in agriculture who are contributing and who are just as deserving,” she said. “I think it is so incredibly important for everyone to understand more about where their food comes from. This is key to the future of our industry.”
Grant added that watching children learn about food is most rewarding.
