Graeme Sait says farmers who have a better understanding of the biological activity in their soil also have a better chance of earning a better living from that soil.
Sait, co-founder of Nutri-Tech Solutions, is one of a growing number of scientists advocating a more natural approach to food production. That doesn’t necessarily mean organic farming. Instead, it means working with the living components of the soil, ranging from the mycorrhizal fungi to the earthworms. Humus is an essential ingredient in all of Sait’s recipes for success.
NPK are still the building blocks of a good crop, according to Sait, but they can be employed sparingly and in conjunction with humic acid or chelated by the farmer.
Like NPK, conventional soil testing and plant tissue analysis are also valuable tools in crop production which can be dealt with in a different light.
