It was another down day for oilseed futures on Tuesday but corn edged slightly higher and wheat futures were mixed.
May canola fell $3.70 to $514.20, and is bearing in on a support level of about $512.50 that has been the low spot so far in 2017.
May soy in Chicago today dipped below $10 per bushel for the first time since November.
The big soybean crops in South America are weighing down oilseed prices.
CORN
Corn is also under pressure from expected big South American crops, however today it got a little support from a report that China had bought at least three cargoes of American corn, totaling 195,000 tonnes, for delivery this spring and early summer. There was talk that additional cargoes might also be in the works.

How can the treaty rights of Indigenous peoples be honoured in a way that gives them a proper seat at the table when it comes to farming in Canada?
China sits on a huge stockpile of government owned corn but a large portion has quality problems. Regions of the country in the south need quality corn. It gets some corn from Ukraine, but port tie ups there caused the Chinese buyers to turn to the U.S., Reuters reported.
WHEAT
Chicago and Kansas winter wheat contracts were mostly lower but spring wheat Minneapolis edged slightly higher.
Cold weather this week might damage a small amount of the U.S. soft winter wheat crop.
The Kansas weekly crop condition report slightly downgraded the condition of the winter wheat crop in that state, lowering the good-to-excellent amount to 40 percent from 43 percent the week before.
The western part of the state seriously needs rain.

The TSX composite was down about one percent and major U.S. stock market indexes were all slightly lower in late trade.
