TABER, Alta. — Members of about a dozen different 4-H clubs showed their livestock amid the heat of the Taber Agri-Plex June 5-6.
Gideon Tams of the Grassy Lake 4-H Beef Club won the grand champion title for the district and Brayden Torrie, also from the Grassy Lake club, won the reserve title.
At the weekend sale, Tams earned $8,790 for his steer and Torrie’s animal brought $4,278. Sale average was $2.95 per pound.
The district rate of gain title was won by Colby Torrie of the Bon Ayr 4-H Beef Club, with a steer that gained 4.63 lb. per day.

Top district showmanship winner was Lauren Machacek of Grassy Lake for the seniors and Taylor Lee of Taber for the juniors.
The senior district judging title went to Machacek as well, with Chelsey Mills of Retlaw Prairie 4-H Beef Club winning the junior judging title.
On the sheep side, Lauren Gouw of the New Ewe 4-H Club won grand champion, earning $1,500 at the sale. Nevada Huvenaars of the Hays 4-H Club won reserve and sold the animal for $600.
The sheep sale averaged $783 per head.
In swine competition, the animal shown by Thomas Ypma won club champion and also had the highest rate of gain at 1.94 lb. per day. Ypma was also the champion showman.
Kyle Molnar won reserve champion and Simon Gansner won the reserve champion showmanship award.
Average price at the sale was $1,378.50.
