Clay Serby has taken over the Saskatchewan highways and transportation portfolio.

The current minister responsible for SGI, the Saskatchewan Property Management Corporation and the Liquor and Gaming Authority replaced Andy Renaud, who resigned.

Serby, MLA for Yorkton, said he expects it will be a busy five or six months as he handles all those areas. Premier Roy Romanow is expected to shuffle the cabinet later this year.

“There’s no doubt that the highways and transportation strategy is going to take priority at this point in time for me,” Serby told reporters. “I’m a producer, a farmer, so I know the kinds of pressures that producers out there and shippers are experiencing with rail-line abandonment and the kinds of partnerships that we’re getting into with the large inland grain terminals and the trucking industry.”

Last weekend Serby met with American officials to discuss the north-south trade corridor.
