Saskatchewan’s minister for rural and remote health, Tim McMillan, will resign effective Sept. 30 to become president of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers.

The Lloydminster MLA was first elected in 2007 and served in several cabinet portfolios including energy and resources, Crown Investments Corp., Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority, and Tourism Saskatchewan.

Health minister Dustin Duncan will take on McMillan’s duties for now but premier Brad Wall said he will appoint a new minister soon.

By law, Wall is also required to call a byelection within six months of a seat becoming vacant. A general election is not expected until spring 2016.
