Saskatchewan farmers made great use of last week’s warm dry weather and have now seeded 64 percent of the crop, which is right on the five-year average.

That’s up from 22 percent the week before.

The southwest area continues to be most advanced with 80 percent in the ground, followed by west-central at 68 percent, northwest at 60 percent, northeast at 59 percent, southeast at 58 percent, and east-central at 52 percent.

Rainfall last week ranged from trace amounts to more than 75 millimetres in some places.

Topsoil moisture conditions on cropland are rated 16 percent surplus, 81 percent adequate and three percent short. On hay and pasture land, conditions are 12 percent surplus, 82 percent adequate and six percent short.

Livestock water availability is also rated adequate. Pasture conditions are considered 13 percent excellent, 57 percent good, 24 percent fair and six percent poor.

Most crops are emerging in good condition, although many are at or behind normal development stages for this time of year.

Localized flooding, hail and wind caused some crop damage.
