Canola held on to the gains posted Tuesday, supported by rising soybeans, soy oil and a weaker loonie.

Wheat fell, mostly on technical factors. Corn edged lower after an early rally triggered profit taking.

The March oats contract hit new record highs as desperate American processors try to attract oats trapped by Western Canada’s rail inadequacies.

At one point March oats were up the 30 cent limit with funds piling on, but closed just 3.75 cents higher at a record $5.06 ¾ US a bushel.

March oats are at a whopping 46 cent premium over May.
