Public health officials are warning residents of southern Saskatchewan and Alberta to be aware of a measles outbreak.
Cases in Alberta and a suspected case in Saskatchewan’s Five Hills Health Region, around Moose Jaw, are linked to recent visits to and from the Netherlands.
Measles is highly contagious and can occur from travelling to and from Canada.
Parents should ensure both they and their children’s immunizations are up to date.
Pre-school and school-aged children should have two doses of the measles, mumps, rubella vaccine. Adults born after 1970 who travel often to places with outbreaks should also get two doses.
Symptoms of measles include high fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and spots in the mouth. A rash generally begins on the face and spreads to the rest of the body.
