Saskatchewan’s harvest was 71 percent complete before heavy rains swept through most of the grain belt Wednesday and Thursday.
The weekly provincial crop report said 21 percent is either swathed or ready to straight combine.
The five-year average for this time of year is 60 percent combined and 23 percent ready.
By region, the west-central region is most advanced at 86 percent done, followed by 79 percent in the southwest, 73 percent in the northwest, 68 percent in the northeast, 62 percent in the southeast and 60 percent in east-central areas.
Average to above-average yields continue to be reported. Spring wheat is averaging 46 bushels per acre, durum is 44 bu/ac, barley is 68 bu/ac, canola is 38 bu/ac and pea yields are averaging 43 bu/ac.
Rainfall last week and now the last couple of days will recharge dry topsoil throughout the province. Some wind and heavy rain damage has been reported but only light frost has occurred with no damage.
