Saskatchewan is reporting one serious and six suspected cases of West Nile Virus.
The province’s chief medical health officer will speak to reporters later today, but the province has issued a news release stating that one person is in hospital with West Nile neurological syndrome.
The people likely became infected in late August and early September. Officials said the risk is now low because of the cooler weather.
Most West Nile infections are similar to mild illness such as fever and aches. The more serious neurological form can cause encephalitis or inflammation of the brain.
Anyone who develops severe headaches, persistent high fever or confusion should seek medical attention.
