Another Canadian agribusiness is kicking in money to help Alberta residents affected by recent flooding.
The Richardson Foundation announced yesterday that it will donate $100,000 to the Canadian Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund.
The Richardson Foundation is the philanthropic arm of James Richardson & Sons Ltd., whose affiliated companies include Richardson International and subsidiary elevator company Richardson Pioneer.
The Red Cross Alberta Floods Fund assists Red Cross teams in providing basic services to flood victims.
“The devastation caused by the recent floods which have affected hundreds of thousands of individuals in communities across Alberta, including many of our personnel, is absolutely staggering,” said Hartley Richardson, president and chief executive officer of James Richardson & Sons.

The Richardson donation is the latest financial offering from the western Canadian agriculture sector.
On June 27, Viterra officials announced a donation of $75,000 to the Red Cross to support ongoing flood relief efforts in Alberta.
Also last month, Canadian Pacific Railway donated $200,000 to Red Cross to help Alberta flood victims.
In addition, both CP and Viterra agreed to match all employee donations dollar-for-dollar.
“CP is proud to support the Red Cross in its efforts to bring relief to all who have been upended by this natural disaster,” said chief executive officer Hunter Harrison.
“The impacts will linger for some time as southern Albertans, including many members of our CP family, rebuild.”
