Saskatchewan farmers have generally made up for a late start to seeding, according to the provincial crop report released today.
About 67 percent of the crop has been seeded; the five-year average is 70 percent.
All regions made significant progress in the past week despite rainfall in most areas. The southwest is furthest advanced at 85 percent, while the northeast is least advanced at 51 percent. All other areas are between 60 and 70 percent complete.
The Coronach and Humboldt areas got the most rain at more than 50 millimetres.
Topsoil moisture conditions are good. Conditions on topsoil are rated 81 percent adequate, 13 percent surplus and six percent short. On hay and pasture land, conditions are 81 percent adequate, seven percent surplus, 11 percent short and one percent very short. Pasture conditions are rated 20 percent excellent, 56 percent good, 20 percent fair and four percent poor.
Water available for livestock is also considered adequate.
