A section of roof collapsed at Regina’s Evraz Place April 3, damaging a building that was just upgraded for Canadian Western Agribition last fall.
Officials said heavy snow and ice buildup on the roof of Stockman’s Arena is likely to blame for the cave-in in the adjacent Commercial Cattle Barn. The two facilities share a wall.
Agribition chief executive officer Marty Seymour said he had seen the damage and suggested it could be a section as big as 12 by 12 metres.
The steel building was upgraded last fall to better accommodate the commercial cattle and bison events.

Evraz Place owns the building and Agribition rents it for the show.
No one was in the building when the collapse occurred.
However, there are nearby offices in Stockman’s Arena used by the Canadian Cowboys’ Association and Saskatchewan Bison Association. Staff were evacuated.
A gas leak was found and shut off, according to Evraz Place.
The extent of the damage isn’t yet known, and the area has been closed for safety and investigation.
